To be or not to be........selfish? thats the question

Selfishness is a word thrown about a lot now days you cant escape it. I'm sure most of you have been called selfish at some point of your life and some more than others but is this word used out of context or has an unjustified stigma? now no matter who you are you are a selfish person. you cant escape it, you would die if you weren't. to want to eat or to breath is a form of selfishness only thinking about your self, no matter if you think its what every person is entitled to, its selfish and when it comes down to food it can be quite complex and different layers to your selfishness. we need to eat to survive and if your favourite meal is a steak, rare with peppercorn sauce then a life has been sacrificed to go into that meal (no argument of vegetarian/vegan intended) but you now this right? unless your living in a weird fantasy world where steak has come from a steak tree. so you have put your own want not need over somethings life to get what you want because you don't need that steak to survive you just simple like meat and your going to get what you want. unless you are a vegetarian/vegan but it doesn't make you exempt from selfishness, as when your eat your tofu and couscous that's food your getting that some one else isn't. now this is the very basic level of it all and no one is a bad person for eating meat or food in general, we need to survive. all life is sacred and that includes your own and being a vegetarian/vegan is harder to get what your body needs. not if your eating more than you should that's greed, which is the next level of selfishness and is when it comes to food its bad for you, but is greed really all bad? i would say greed is to want something you don't need like a big engine sports car when a little 3 door hatch back would do, you could even go as far as catching the train or the bus, even riding a bike. and we all want a better and easier life and i think a lot of us do in western society at least. so when it comes to being not greedy, not wanting better, easier, more stuff, etc and to give, the most unselfish thing you can do and is a unrealistic dream, how can you give when you have nothing to give? you have to be in a certain position to be able to give, you have to have stuff to give and you could give all your stuff away and be left with nothing left to give but why would you do that? not if you want to carry on being in this nice position where you can actually carry on helping people or things substantially. so in my conclusion selfless acts are byproducts of selfishness, you have to be selfish before you can become unselfish.
